Prayer Email archive: (01/18/2001) persevering or giving up? |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: persevering or giving up? [1 Corinthians 9:24-27] 24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. It is so easy to give up. Not just on ministry but on life. When things don't work out "our way", we sometimes think that we can pack our bags and go away. Where are we to go? God is everywhere. Even when we feel like giving up on Him, He is hanging on to us. Because He loves us. So, we need to remind ourselves that God has not promised us a bed of roses, and we have got to fight, not only in our ministries but in our lives. We are running a race and this is the race of our lives. The Crown at the end that I am seeking for is that when I see my Saviour, He will smile and say that I have fought a good race. I must run this race therefore to win. Not to be defeated by circumstances or by anybody because I am always looking forward at my Crown, my Prize. That is how we are to run the race, always looking ahead, always believing and never giving up. [Romans 5:3-4] 3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. The only thing that we cannot afford to lose is hope. If we do not persevere, we will not see our hope materialise. The best part of the above scripture is in the next verse. [Romans 5:5] And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. God will not let us hope in vain because He loves us. That is the most wonderful thing that in the end, I can always count on His love. 2. New prayer requests: i.
