Prayer Email archive: (03/16/2000) The inner witness |
hello prayer warriors,
1. prayer note: the inner witness We were covering recently how God communicates with us: i. fresh manna (thru the bible), ii. thru his servants iii. a still small voice iv. dreams and visions v. thru signs and circumstances this is the last in this series: vi. the inner witness What is this inner witness? [Philippians 4:7] And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. The JFB commentary: "shall guard"; shall keep as a well-garrisoned stronghold [Isaiah 26:1,3]. The same Greek verb is used in [1 Peter 1:5]. There shall be peace secure within, whatever outward troubles may besiege. This is the inner witness, the peace of God that acts like a traffic light when we need to make decisions in our lives. It is the inner peace or joy in your spirit when you are doing something in line with what God wants in your life (green light: go). Or alternatively, it is the lack of peace or the uneasy feeling you have in your spirit when you are doing something against God's will (red light: stop). Do you remember times in your past when you experienced the yellow light (not sure what to do next)? It usually means wait and pray some more. Or don't plunge in, this is not the right timing. How do we tune in to this inner witness? Well, I think one of the clues is the verse immediately before. [Philippians 4:6] Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. We pray and lift up the situation or the problem to God and present it to Him, and the peace of God will guard us. The inner witness is not an emotional feeling but something deep within our spirit. We all have it. It is the simplest way in which God guides us. We just need to be sensitive to the inner witness and always bring our situations to Him in prayer. Come before God with a hearing heart. 2.
