        (03/02/2000) A still small voice

hello prayer warriors,

1. Prayer note: A still small voice

This is the third way (refer to previous prayer emails):
[1 Kings 19:12]
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not
in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
[Isaiah 30:21]
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your
ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is
the way; walk in it." - NIV

Have you heard this small still voice?

There have been many times when I would sit on my bed
in my room and call out to God, sometimes in
desperation for an answer to some of the challenges in
my life and I would say "God, speak to me ... let me
hear you" and then I would wait for a loud audible
voice. ... :) The loud audible voice never came.

Why? Maybe because we are forcing God to speak to us
in a certain way and we are always expecting Him to
speak in such an undisputably "true voice" fashion. We
can bring CNN into the room and the reporters can
testify ... "Yes, we heard that voice too"

It's like doubting Thomas who did not attend the first
gathering of the disciples "(first church service?)"
after Christ's death. When the disciples told him that
Jesus appeared in the assembly ... this was what
Thomas said:
[John 20:25]
... But he (Thomas) said unto them, Except I shall see
in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger
into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into
his side, I will not believe.

You want to know the rest of the story?
[John 20:26-29]
26 And after eight days again his disciples were
within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the
doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said,
Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy
finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy
hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not
faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord
and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast
seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that
have not seen, and yet have believed.

God wants intelligent partnership and fellowship with
us. He wants us to take responsibility for our
decisions and to exercise our faith. Imagine if we
asked God for every decision in our life and He speaks
to us in a loud audible fashion each time. We will
just be following instructions all throughout our
lives because we do not have to come to our own
conclusion, we do not have to practise some of the
values that God has taught us. And when the storms
come, who do you think will take the blame for our
decisions?

Do you want to know what is that still small voice?

[John 14:26]
...the Holy Spirit... will be your teacher and will
bring to your mind all I have said to you (Philips)

It can be a thought heard our hearts, mental pictures,
impressions, convictions, ideas that the Holy Spirit
impresses upon us. So, let us learn when we pray, to
listen to that still small voice and to exercise our
faith.

2. New Prayer Requests
i. Prayer for Amanda Bundy and her parents
bc has emailed me to this ...

"This prayer request was forwarded (by) David R. Bess,
Pastor, Oakwood Baptist Church, Charleston, West
Virginia 25314

Prayers needed for Amanda Bundy, and her parents. I
don't have a large forwarding list but I'm hoping that
some of you do. Everyone with large mailing list,
please forward what I am writing to you now to ask for
your help. I do not really know how to start a prayer
chain, but we need a miracle.
Amanda Bundy is a 6-year-old girl in Greensburg,
Pennsylvania, the daughter of some very close friends
of ours. A few weeks ago her mother was giving her a
hug and felt a lump on Amanda's back. An X-ray showed
it to be some sort of growth, and later tests
discovered that is a massive malignant tumor that has
spread to all parts of her chest and abdomen. There
are no organs that are untouched and she has more
tumor in her body than she has organs. As I write
this, she is hospitalized after a biopsy of the tumor,
and her parents are waiting for the results of a bone
marrow test. If her bone marrow is clean, then they
have a chance to save her with chemotherapy. If they
find cancerous cells in her bone marrow, then the only
hope to save her life is a miracle. She is in no pain
yet and appears to be a perfectly healthy, beautiful
little red-haired girl. She doesn't even know she is
sick yet and can't understand why she has to go to the
doctor so often if she's not sick. I am asking for
your prayers on her behalf.
