Prayer Email archive: (08/28/2000) how to endure.. |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: how to endure.. We talked in the last email about sharing in Christ's sufferings and why sufferings is necessary [Philippians 3:10-12]. Paul wants us to present ourselves perfect in Christ. [Colossians 1:28] Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Derek Prince also talked about how we are to mature in Christ. One of the things that he said is that we go through different stages of trials. There are no shortcuts. If we do not pass stage 3, we cannot jump to stage 4. It is therefore important for us to pass through and triumph over the circumstances before our light breaks forth like the morning. In the midst of the night, how do we endure till morning comes? Let us continue where we last left off at the book of Philippians. [Philippians 3:13-14] 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. How do athletes endure in their training before they reach for their gold medal? By keeping their goal in mind. They discipline themselves and they go through their training cheerfully because their focus is not at the present or at their past failures but at the prize which they will seize in the future. One interesting point is that it is difficult for us to focus on our future if we do not learn to forget about our past. Our prize and our future is God's will for us in our lives which we know is for good and not for evil. [Jeremiah 29:11] For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV) When we focus on the goodness of God in our lives and believe that His goodness will ensure that His best plan for us will be fulfilled, we will have the strength to endure. 2. New prayer requests: i. desperately need prayer for my parents -- carol I am seeking your help to pray for my parents before I do something rash to both of them. They are supposed to be christians since the 1940s, but their attitutde towards us & each other is very uncharitable. My mother always finding fault with everything while my father criticizes everything in a very loud voice. They are both in their 80s(80 & 84). They just returned home from a holiday in Canada & they complained incessantly about the oldest sister. I find that I am unable to go to church because of their attitude to me. My brothers & their wives who go to church also do not speak to me. I still have faith in God but my heart is so heavy being surrounded by this attitude. I have had a failed marriage & i am back home because of a lack of finances. I begin a Msc degree in September to qualify for a better job. God is good to me. Seems as though I can't maintain any relationship. I recently had another failed one & it hurts really bad. Please pray for us. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=327&table=prayer ii. job -- toya Please pray for Michael so that he would get a job at Ford Motor Company. Thank you for your prayers. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=329&table=prayer iii. Needing a closer & more faithful walk -- paris I am a 22 yr old female, that is trying to gain a stronger & more faithful walk with Jesus. I have devotions that I try to be faithful in reading everyday, but that is not really my big problem. I have strayed away from faithfully praying everyday, going to church faithfully & not attending bible study. What I ask that you pray with me to be more faithful in my serving of Jesus Christ & stay in the narrow way. Now I know that all have fallen short of the glory of God, but the Lord always makes a way to bring you back to where you need to be, & I thank Him for that. I just also want you to pray that when I do fall short during my journey, that I don't take long to get back on track & continue my journey with the Lord. Thank You http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=330&table=prayer iv. Moving to a new place -- craw My wife & I are currently living with her mother.
