Prayer Email archive: (02/18/2000) The trodden path |
hello prayer warriors
1. prayer note: the trodden path We talked about prayer being a two-way communication and hearing from God. Hearing from God begins with our attitude or the condition of our hearts. Jesus told us the parable of the sower about the conditions of our heart: [Luke 8:4-15] There were four types of soil that was mentioned in this parable: A sower went out to sow: and as he sowed, some fell i. [Luke 8:5] by the way side ii. [Luke 8:6] upon a rock iii. [Luke 8:7] among thorns iv. [Luke 8:8] on good ground What type of ground are we when we hear the Word? The first type of soil: [Luke 8:5] A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. What is those that fell by the way side? it was the trodden path. Sometimes our lives are like the trodden path. Trodden down by other people, by events and by things that we seem is out of our control. We then harbour all these hurts and unforgiveness and bitterness and it is difficult for us to hear from God because we have all these "noise" in our hearts that we hear all the time. We find it difficult to forgive others and sometimes to forgive God (as we blame Him for everything). Forgiveness is not for others, it is for us. [Matthew 18:34,35] 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. When we do not forgive, we are tormented and we give the devil room in our lives. When we forgive, we free ourselves from this torment and the noise. It is easier to hear from God when we free ourselves from this noise. So, before we pray, let us learn to forgive first. Try it and ask God to help us to hear from Him.
