Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

My translation (the NRSV) of Proverbs 31:30 reads: "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." Wow. If only our culture mirrored such a message!

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 

Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. 

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 

While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

As all of us (husbands included) are to submit to the Lord. (Jesus and the church as His bride) Wives submit to your husbands. But please do NOT confuse that with 'slavery.' (that was for wives AND husbands) We, the men, need to model Jesus. He is gracious and kind, and ALWAYS puts us before Him. That is how we husbands should be.
