   General Questions:
        Body piercing and tattoos

[Leviticus 19:28] help me understand what is meant by this scripture and whether it is right or wrong in God's eyes to have tattoos and body piercings (even ear rings). A new sister in Christ just got a tattoo and she doesn't feel it is wrong. I do, but I'm sure if the Bible backs that up.

I'm understanding this to mean not to make any marks to honor the dead. What do you think?

Leviticus 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.
(copied from JFB) (Leviticus 19:28). Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead--The practice of making deep gashes on the face and arms and legs, in time of bereavement, was universal among the heathen, and it was deemed a becoming mark of respect for the dead, as well as a sort of propitiatory offering to the deities who presided over death and the grave. The Jews learned this custom in Egypt, and though weaned from it, relapsed in a later and degenerate age into this old superstition (@Isa 15:2 Jer 16:6 41:5)

I belive that it is not wrong to have a tattoo or bodypiercing. I have my ears pierced once, and very shortly will be having them done a second time. The only way that i think a tattoo is wrong is when it takes you away from God, or if it says something that goes against any of God's teachings. But hey, thats my opinion.
