I used to listen to secular music, and I didn't feel that there was anything wrong with it.. But then I began to actually listen to the words in the music and realized that every song was talking about the same things: drugs, sex, alcohol, etc.. I found that it was tough to be a Christian and to be against all those things and sing about them with my friends.. If someone sees you, and knows that you are a Christian, and you are singing a secular song, they will think that it is okay for them to do the same.. It will hinder your witness and your personal walk with God.. People tend to think that the only type of Christian music there is, is the hymnal music or contemporary music. But there are all the same types of music by Christian artists that are sang by secular artists.. Such as rap, R&B, hip hop, boy bands, rock, ska, etc.. There are tons of interesting Christian artists that have songs out that are deeper and more uplifting than secular artist's.. Read [Phillipians 4:8]

It will tell you everything about decent music, tv shows, etc.

It is okay to listen to secular (non religious) music, such as classical,opera,some R & B, etc.

God wants us to glorify him in all we do. All things we read watch and hear. That doesn't mean drop out of college and only read the Bible--He wants us to have pure thoughts and enjoy somethings of the world.You can experience the beauty of God's nature in classical music.
Make sure your walk with God is not destroyed by leisure activities. One minute you can be thinking "cool thoughts" and bobbing your head to rap, and then the next day, accidently yearn for the "hoodlife."

There is also another verse that tells us that what defiles a man comes from within. Whoever knows it, please reply. Just because you hear someone curse doesn't mean you will be evil, its if you desire to use those words like them.
I dislike environments like that and flee from them!

Just take the Phillipians 4:8 challenge when faced with a choice for entertainment.
