It all boils down to making choices.

If you wish to steer your own life, Satan will surely take over the steering wheel of your life and lead you on a journey that will only benefit him; dispair, misery, hurt, lack of love, etc. (I know, I let Satan steer my life for many years).

If you allow God to do the steering, He will lead you down a path of love, kindness, happiness and hope (just to mention a few things).

You state:
"I think I am going backwards."

This could very well be God reaching out to you in an attempt to redirect your life; for Satan would NEVER allow you to think you are headed for trouble...

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

Trust in God, and love Him with all your heart; and He will bless you in more ways than you can imagine.

Turn to your local church, and ask about any program geared towards new believers, they will help you discover the love of God and start you on a journey full of love, peace, and good will.
