Dear woodchuck,
When I read your request, my heart was moved. I grew up in a very similar situation. My mother is mentally ill. She used to cut herself. She used to see things and hear things. She was very abusive toward my sister and I. Most of the time she didn't remember hurting us. I don't now the full extent of your troubles, and really, that is totally between you and the Lord, but I can definatlly encourage you that you are doing the best thing, even if it might not feel like the right thing to do, or even if you might have some doubts as to what the will of God is in such a situation as this. I strongly believe that it is God's will to hold each other accountable for our actions. Now I know that your husband may not be in his right mind, and how do you hold someone accountable if they're not in their right mind? Well, my father ended up divorcing my mother when I was 5, and though I disagree with divorce, it took something this drastick in order for my mother to finally seek the help that she needed. I am very pleased to say that my mother is now living a life pretty close to normal and she's been a born again believer for going on 13 years. I know that there will come a day when mother's medication will no longer help her (she's been on meds for 20 years now), but I have the peace knowing that if her mind does go again, at least she'll be with the Lord.
So you see, the Lord can take a bad situation and turn it around for His good.
I will pray for you. missy-muff@excite.com
