   Prayer Requests:
        Miracles

I have attended many conferences on christian living and biblical teachings. I have attended many breakout sessions gaining insight and advice on following the will of God. I know the Lord has called me out and I know I am blessed. The insight gained and the "words" shared all came to test on May 20, 2000 when my I received a call from the State Police that my daughter (a pedestrian) was hit by an SUV. She layed in a coma and paralyzed in the ICU of the nearby hospital's Trauma Center. As my wife and I looked upon her lifeless body, our world came to a grinding halt and we knew then that only our Lord could give us peace and pull us through this ordeal.
My daughter suffered an open skull fracture with bleeding and
swelling of the brain, a shattered pelvis which the surgeon explained "..it was as if her pelvis exploded!", a sever of the sacrum (lower end of spine), a lacerated kidney which was bleeding internally and the fact that she lost some 5 units of blood at the scene... gave us little hope. We went to the hospital on a daily basis to pray with her and to be at her side. The doctors said that she would be able to hear us. We prayed every moment that we could be with her. We had others to visit and pray with her as well. My brother and his wife came down from NYC to support us, we went to the hospital to pray with our daughter. We formed a circle and prayed for a complete healing in Jesus name. We spared no words and all four of us holding hands stood around her bed and as we prayed we felt certain that the Lord would hear our pleas.
Strange that as we prayed the nurse came over to us, touching my
shoulder and my wife's hand, she said that while we were praying for my daughter, her ICP (inter cranial pressure)... which must be less than +10 but no greater than +20 (this brain pressure monitoring was reading at +17 to +22) was reading in the single digits... +1 to +8! What a manifestation of our prayers!
There is Power in Prayer, AMEN! Five days had passed, we got word that our daughter was moving her eyes and fingers and toes! Praise the Lord Jesus! We rushed to the hospital to be at her bedside. It was to be that another week would go by, she would open her eyes and fall back asleep, she fought one infection after another. We had hope in that our Lord has heard our prayers and answered them. Believe me it has not been easy for us. Each day was meet with another hurdle and each day brought our daughter back to us. As she appeared to be more aware and moving her limbs she was upgraded to serious and in guarded condition. Her vitals were stronger and her ICP never went higher than single digits. The brain bleeding and swelling stopped and the brain shunt was removed. Soon thereafter she was removed from life support with only breathing assisted and a tracheotomy in place to assist her as well with an IV to give her nutrients and medication to fight infections. Praise the Lord for his grace! After a month in the hospital and a short stay in the rehabilitation ward, our daughter returned home to be with us. She came home unable to walk yet, and with an IV and tracheotomy, we were so excited that our daughter came home!
We still need prayer, as I will also let you know that my daughter has three children 17, 7 and 5 year olds. They are all staying at home with my wife and our 13 and 11 year old children. We were not prepared, yet prayers keep getting answered. She got a wheel chain and she gets a nurse and a physical rehabilitation therapist to visit. We live in a bi-level and have not yet been able to build a ramp for her to exit the house so we have to carry her out so that she is able to get some air and sunshine. Praise the Lord that she is home. We are so blessed that my 11 year old daughter gave up her room for her older sister to use her bed while my 11 year old sleeps on the couch in the living room. My 13 year old son is sharing his room (what a blessing to see their unselfishness) with his 7 and 5 year old nephews. Our daughter's 17 year old son (like any teen) is comfortable where ever he can get some "leg room" for his 5'10" frame (and he is still growing.. physically and spiritually!) We are so blessed besides our difficulties.
I had some recent touching moments, whenever my daughter gets depressed and tearful over her circumstances, I look her in the eyes and hold her hands telling her that we love her and that while we could have been putting her petite body in a pine box and putting her to rest some six feet under, covered with dirt; we praise the Lord that he reached out on that May 20th and snatched her up from the jaws of death and to heal her broken body. What a mighty God we serve that He took interest on our daughter so that she could be saved. Praise His Holy Name. I tell you, our mind is made up that we will serve the Lord. In our House, the Name Most High is JESUS!
We ask for prayers that our needs would be met, our finances are
expended as well, and have all had to endure the mounting bills and to absorb the additions to our home. My daughter has no husband, but she has the Lord and I am proud to be her father. Many a night I lay awake and restless, But I find comfort in His Word. I remember the promises that our Lord has kept, the words that many men and woman have shared over the years. It is through the faithfulness of our Lord and by His Will be done that I know that somehow someway, He will see us through this ordeal! Our Lord ask us to... "prove Him". Please stand with me in prayer, Please pray that I not be alone, Please help me keep a dry eye and focused on the Word of our trusted Savior and Lord of Lords! Please pray that we find peace and strength in Him. So many years I have found myself ministering to others in sickness and in trials. Now I find myself in need. As I wait upon the Lord, for his ways are numerous and blessings fulfilling, let me be worthy of His blessings as I know that He is worthy of our praise and worship. Oh what a comfort I find in expressing this dilemma and knowing that He is already answering my pleas. He has already begun to heal and restore my daughter. Please feel free to circulate this email to the body of believers and dear saints in the Lord and that I ask for their prayers. Thank you Lord for your Love. Amen.
I remain Your faithful servant and Your friend, Richard DeGracia.

Lord,

I thank You that Richard does not run away but runs closer to You through this incident and that His faith in You remains strong. Father, I know that we will never be ashamed because we hope in You.

I lift up Richard's daughter into Your hand and ask for Your miracle work to continue in her life. Give her health as she feeds on Your Word daily.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
