Dear guest
I, too, had felt betrayed. Someone whom I had regarded as a good friend, one day turned around and accused me of a lot of nasty things. I felt a friendship was really betrayed. That was more than a year ago.
I still struggle with forgiveness - but it's less painful for me now, and it does not bother me as much now. I read somewhere that forgiveness does not mean forgetting, and that there are 4 stages to forgiveness: 1st stage: Hurt; 2nd stage: Hate 3rd stage: Well wishes 4th stage: Reconciliation. The book was saying that sometimes we may not reach Stage 4, but we should try to reach Stage 3 where we can wish that person well.
I, too, still need prayers. So this prayer is for you as much as it is for me, too.
Lord, I know that forgiveness is a choice. Lord, help this Guest and myself to make a conscious choice to forgive. You will help us with the rest of the steps. It's so true that by our own effort, we find it hard to forgive; but with Your help it is possible. So, help us, Lord. You have forgiven us many, many times, help us to forgive our friends who have betrayed us as well. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we harbour ill thoughts towards the person who has hurt us. Help us to come to the stage when we will not harbour such thoughts. Help us to look up to You, and not to dwell in our circumstances. Heal our hurts, too, O Lord. I pray that one day we will be able to look back, and thank You for helping us to overcome this, and for strengthening us in the process.
Thank You, Lord. In Jesus' precious Name, Amen.
