Father,
You know how I felt when I lost my dear friend and brother-in-Christ, Kin (http://www.rtkm.com.my/kin) to lung cancer. Your people in my bible study group and in our Church had prayed incessantly, pleading with You to let Kin live. Likewise, friends in this prayer forum also interceded for Kin. For 2 weeks every day without fail, we travelled daily to Kin's bedside in Singapore to pray for him. We cried our hearts out to You, holding fast to the promise of Yours that a fervent prayer would avail much. But Kin passed on to glory on 6 February 2000.
I can share the grief of Jack's family with Jack's demise. If I had not been a Christian, my heart would have been hardened. I had not hesitated to question the result of our prayers as I could not understand Your will that Kin should be taken away as many lives would have turned to You if Kin had been healed. I yearned for Your miracles but You did not show it. I will understand if Jack's family thought the same.
But yet O Lord now I know that it is not for us to question Your will and Your purpose for our lives. Many a time we are unable to understand Your response to our prayers because we are short-sighted. But whenever we look back at our lives, we would find that each time the way our prayers were answered You had actually made things turn better than we had prayed. I pray that may this experience strengthen us and our faith in You so that we may always cling on to You and not lean on to our own understanding. May the Holy Spirit dwell in the home of Jack's parents and help them overcome this grief and may sadness be turned into joy and may their loss be turned into gain for You. Bless them, O Lord, and look over them as they carry on with their lives cherishing the fond memories they had of Jack, albeit a brief one. May we take comfort that even though Jack's body cannot live with us anymore, his body will still live forever with You, his Creator and someday we shall meet him again in that Promised Land.
In Jesus' name, I pray. AMEN.
"This body that decays must be changed into a body that cannot decay. This mortal body must be changed into a body that will live forever. When this body that decays is changed into a body that cannot decay, and this mortal body is changed into a body that will live forever, then the teaching of Scripture will come true: "Death is turned into victory! Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?"" 1 Corinthians 15:53-55
