Prayer Email archive: (09/28/2000) understanding your calling |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: understanding your calling [1 Samuel 13:11-14] 11 And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; 12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. 13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee. Many times I have wondered what God's calling is for me and why am I struggling in my job day in and day out. There must be something better for me to do. There are so many things to do in God's kingdom and here I am in the rat-race. One day, I will get to go into a ministry full time and serve the Lord. Saul's kingdom was taken away from him because he did not understand his calling. God had called him to be a king and not to be a priest. And due to pressure, he took on the job of a priest. The first thing Samuel asked him is "What have you done?" "You have not done what the Lord has commanded to be a captain over the people and you have not kept your calling." King Uzziah [2 Chronicles 26:18-23] became a leper when he insisted that he wanted to burn incense even when 48 priests tried to stop him. There are other examples in the bible when people went out of their calling and started to do something else other than what God has called them into. [Revelations 1:6a] And hath made us kings and priests unto God ... God has made us kings and priests unto Him. It is a divine appointment. Do you know your calling? I just heard Charles Nieman's message on this. The priests primary responsibility from the Old Testament times to the new Testament times has been to provide vision for the kingdom of God. The kings' responsibility is to provide provision for the vision. If you are a king, God has placed you in that position to make money and bring resources for the extension of God's kingdom. That is your life's calling. That is what God wants you to do. If you are a priest, God has placed you there to get the vision from God and plant that vision into the people. Both priests and kings need to work together for the good of the kingdom. Find out what is your calling and run with it. One tip: if you are not in full time ministry now, you are currently a king and your responsibility is to go into the marketplace (the battlefield) and bring in the resources for the fulfillment of God's vision. 2.
