Prayer Email archive: (09/19/2000) obedience or sacrifice? |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: obedience or sacrifice? [1 Samuel 15:22] And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. Sometimes we think that we have sacrificed a lot for the Lord and because of that, when given a choice between doing right and wrong, we sometimes choose to disobey. In the passage above, Saul did not do as the Lord asked him to, to utterly destroy the Amalekites but decided to take the spoils. When asked by Samuel, why is there bleating of sheep in his ear, Saul said that he decided not to obey because he wanted to sacrifice the spoils to the Lord. I read a story where a father told his son that he needs to do what makes him happy. One day the son came home and told the father that he's not going to college because he has found what makes him happy and that is driving the grocery truck. The father couldn't say anything because he was a victim of his own myopia. He then realised that he gave his son the wrong advice, life isn't about being happy but it is about growing. Are we going to be people that God cannot depend on or others cannot depend on because we just want to do what makes us happy. This is something that I have learned the hard way. I've failed in some of the things that I've started to do for God because I gave up when it was emotionally too taxing for me. [2 Tim 2:2] And the things you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. God is not looking for able men who will be faithful. He is looking for faithful men first who will be able because God will give us the anointing and the ability to carry out the task when we decide that we are going to be obedient and do what is right. In Samuel's words: obedience is better than sacrifice. 2. New prayer requests: i. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder -- guest My husband has been battleing PTSD for 28 years. He is finally facing the horrors he experienced in Vietnam. Please pray for him to recover from his depression & isolation. He has a strong faith in God & is seeking help through counseling. Also, please pray for his counselor to guide him in the right direction. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=371&table=prayer ii. Pray for Debbie -- thankful Dear prayer warriors; please pray for my friend Debbie who is being chastised by God & really grieving. The devil knew she was trying to return to the Lord but was fearful & hesitated only to be involved in crime which may cause her to lose her children. Please pray for mercy as well as courage to be honest & strong through this trial, but most importantly to return to the Lord fully & to save the heart especially of her daughter and for God to open doors of freedom, spiritually & emotionally. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=373&table=prayer iii. Family Finances & Strained Relationships -- gmles Please pray for a young family who's finances are strained beyond the limit. They are Christians, but have fallen away from their church. Also, family relationships have become strained. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=374&table=prayer iv. Pray for restoration of my family -- bella I am a single mom, with two wonderful children. I have been in an abusive relationship with their father for 7 years, & I left 5 months ago. Please pray for God to give me the wisdom & patience to be the mother that I need to be. I know that I am not alone for God has blessed me, and kept us. The father has a drug & alcohol problem, and has never known the Lord. I am willing for God to change me first, & pray for him as well. But sometimes his anger gets to me and I do not want anger to control my life, or the hurt to turn to bitterness. I know that anger & bitterness only keeps us from where God wants us to go. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=375&table=prayer 3. Prayer update: i. Update on Eleanor -- debski Praise God for all of the prayers we received. It is a blessing to know they are being said & helping. Eleanor is still in the hospital. She has also developed a staph infection in the stump of her leg. Please continue to pray for us. Again thank you for all your support & prayers. 4.
