Prayer Email archive: (01/12/2003) approaching the new year with an attitude |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Special note: i. Votes increasing Thank you again for fellow members and fellow voters of the site. Since our last email, the average votes have been increasing and I'd like to thank again for people who are faithfully voting everyday. To view and vote for the site, click here: http://mydevotion.com/mailvote.asp ii. Pray for the site Guys and gals, we have all been blessed by the site. Please pray for the site regularly. There was a time when we started when the web hosting provider refused to support the site. It's complicated but just take a moment to lift up the site and its members. Now, we've changed to Interland as the web-hosting provider and the service has been good. But it's good to pray. Thanks! 2. Prayer note: approaching the new year with an attitude First of all, I'd like to wish everyone Happy New Year and welcome to the new year 2003. Every new year is a good time for new resolutions. But as we get older, sometimes the zeal and desire to create effective change becomes lesser. Sometimes, as we grow older, our "light" becomes dimmer and we approach the world with a sceptical view. If our plans and desires have not been fulfilled, we tend to lose hope every year until one day, you do not have the courage to hope anymore. Well, I have good news for you. It's old news but it's applicable every year. God's plans for us haven't changed. Even when we feel hopeless, He still says in His Word that He has planned good things in our lives. His plans for us is to prosper us and believe me, when God says prosper, He means in every aspect of our lives. [Jeremiah 29:11-14] ... 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD , "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD , "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile." The question is why we still despair? Someone told me recently that he feels that his life was in a shambles. His career doesn't seem to be going his way. He is still struggling with an ailment which has plagued him for some time. He doesn't see himself contributing positively to others, etc. etc. He's not even sure whether God exists or God cares. Strangely, the advice that I gave him was not my usual advice. I just told him that his problem was that he forgets easily. [Psalm 103:2-5] 2 Praise the LORD , O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. So, now you've guessed it what it is that he has easily forgotten. I reminded him of the business deals that God has brought his way. I reminded him of the family and friends that God has given him, of how God took him out of his debt, etc. Sometimes, we look for God in the spectacular (in supernatural ways), but when God blesses us and turns around situations, we easily forget because to us, that is not spectacular enough. You don't have to see the blind see, or the lame walk to see God in action. You just have to reflect positively on the good things in life to see God in action in your life. So, what is the missing attitude that most of us have? It is the attitude of gratitude. We become miserable when we focus on what we don't have and not on what we have. When you are sick, you will be glad if you can walk and breathe and smell the roses without experiencing any pain and discomfort. That is one reason to be thankful. I have so many reasons to be thankful. We just have to reflect and as the psalmist says "Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not ALL his benefits, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things ..." Isn't that enough to be thankful for? If God can give me His best, His only Son, what else will He withhold from me? So, if we are to approach this new year with an attitude, let's approach it with an attitude of gratitude. Forget not all his benefits, let your soul remember and praise God and give thanks because He is great and His plans for us will prevail if we allow Him to. We will talk more about that in our next email but for now, just spend a quiet moment before God and thank Him. This is a new year and we are to approach it with the right attitude! 3.
