Prayer Email archive: (12/12/2002) coming to God in prayer |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Special Note: Happy Belated birthday to mydevotion.com It's been more than two years since mydevotion.com started ... 1st September 2000. I've been so busy lately that I have neglected this site and have not been contributing as much as I have when I started. Please forgive me and pray for me that I will have more zeal and fervour for this ministry that God has given me and for all of you. I would like to thank all of you for your support for this site and for being with me for this long. Even though, I have not been spending much time on the site, I can see that you have been responding to the questions, to the prayer requests and people are posting insights to the site and many have come to know the site through word of mouth. Again, thank you and happy belated birthday to all of us. Here, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank people who post prayer replies online. I'd especially like to mention two people: cherisheep who has been with us for more than one and a half year and has prayed for many people online and groadsmom who is a newcomer but since she came in has refreshed many with her prayers. I've also received emails from others who do not pray online but who faithfully pray for the prayer requests when the prayer email is sent out. Also, I want to thank those of you who send me emails to encourage me. Although, I am not able to name all of you, God knows who you are and we want to thank you for being such great prayer warriors. [Proverbs 11:25] A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. (NIV) 2. Prayer note: coming to God in prayer [Hebrews 4:9-11] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest ... I've recently been learning from my pastor that it is more important to rest in God than to strive. Many times, we expect so much of ourselves in the prayer closet that we forget to rest in God's presence. Just like when we rest in the presence of the people we love, when we come to God, we come to Him fully accepted by Him and we are to be comfortable because we are His beloved. We will make our prayer life much simpler when we come to God in a simple attitude and come to rest in His love and in His presence. My husband tells me that he enjoys coming home because he gets to be in my presence. That should be how we come to God. We are always in His presence, but in this special prayer time, we just want to be with Him. [Luke 10:38-42] 38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Here, Jesus has given us a secret of coming to Him, not by labouring to please him and fussing about everything. We fuss about whether we are worthy of Him, whether we have done enough, on the techniques of praying, of the length of time, when what is needful is that we come into His presence and we learn to rest. That is what He desires of us. Keep things simple. If you find yourself far from God, lacking a prayer life because it is too hard to start and you don't feel that you've done enough, know that Jesus has done it all for us and what He desires is for us to come into His rest. 3.
