        (09/15/2002) give thanks always

Hello prayer warriors,

1. Prayer note: give thanks always

[1 Thes 5:18]
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of
God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Isn't this strange? How can we give thanks in all
things. What if something bad happens to us? Something
tragic, or a death, or a departure, or a betrayal, or
calamity. How can we give thanks?

I think giving thanks is a matter of perspective. It
is whether we are looking at Jesus or the
circumstances. Are we looking at God as still being in
control and are we still believing that He is working
for our good? If we are, we do not fear circumstances
or fear man because our security is in God.

This is harder to say than to do. I can't say that I
am very good at this either. But I've learned some
lessons in life. Firstly, if the devil can steal
something from you, it is probably not worth keeping.
Or if it is something good, God is going to restore
many fold what the devil has stolen. Look at Job, he
got double. Look at Joseph, he had more at the end.
Look at Jesus, He lost his life for us and we gained
eternal life. Perspective is the key, coupled with
faith in a good God. These two elements keep us
trusting and hoping and I believe that our hope in Him
will not leave us ashamed.

Here is an excerpt of one of my old prayer emails
which I feel is relevant to this topic:

--- beginning of excerpt ---
[Jonah 2:9-10]
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of
thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed.
Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited
out Jonah upon the dry land.

I was listening to one of Marilyn Hickey's messages on
tape, and she said that one revelation that she had on
thanksgiving is that ... when we enter into
thanksgiving, we enter into grace. Grace is the
supernatural enabling of God. When we enter into
grace, we enter into the supernatural.

So, let us persevere and offer to Him the sacrifices
of thanksgiving, even if we are in the belly of a fish
and everything around us doesn't look too good. But
let us give Him thanks, lift the situation up into His
hands and enter into grace and the supernatural.
--- end of excerpt ---

In short, give thanks to the Lord because He is GOOD
and He will keep us and bless us. His plans for us is
for good and if He is working for us, who can be
against us?

2. Special note:
i. SPAM MAIL
I am being defamed by all the spam mails. I'm
receiving emails supposedly from myself selling all
kinds of things ... get rich quick schemes, other
web-sites, even other people's web-cams. Of course, I
know that this is a result of the Klez.E virus which
sweeps email names off other people's list and send
emails off with my name as a header as I am in so many
people's list. So, as a precaution, every email that I
send out will have a subject starting with
"mydevotion:". Otherwise, please kindly delete or
ignore the email.

This is the price I have to pay to have a web-site.

ii. PRAY FOR MY BUSINESS
I'm having some problems with one of my existing deals
and I really need your prayers as it will affect my
business. Would appreciate if you could lift up my
business to God in your prayers. Thanks again prayer
warriors.
