Prayer Email archive: (07/14/2002) God is great |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: God is great I've recently been very busy with my music ministry work in the church. Serving in the music ministry has been very taxing on my time as I find myself having to spend most of my free time practicing songs. I'm not really an ultra-talented musician (at least that is my view of myself) and maybe because of that I may have to struggle more than some who may be born oozing with musical talent. But God has taught me through other areas of my life to be faithful in spite of any hardships and to endure. The only way we can stay in a ministry or in anything that God has given us is to endure. One of the important things that the farmer has to do in order to reap a harvest is to endure. He has to wait for the crop to grow before he can reap the benefits from the harvest. Endurance therefore is a very important key towards many things that we do. God has given me some encouragement in this area of endurance because whenever I want to give up, I am reminded that one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is endurance. Why do we give up on anything that God has given to us? Many times we want to give up because of only one word: self. We are easily discouraged when things don't go "our" way. We are discouraged when we don't think we are good enough or we are too good for a job. Timidity or inferiority is also a sense of pride. And the middle alphabet of the word "pride" is the word "I". Inferiority complex and pride can rob us from entering into God's promises for us in our lives in a certain area. It is these emotions, when left unmanaged, that cause us lose out of what God has in store for us when we learn to give up more easily. It is easier to give up than to endure. But endurance will bring a reward because when we learn to endure in spite of ourselves, we have to just reach out and rely on God. We shift our focus from "I" to "Him". The only way to shift our focus away from "I" is to focus on "God". He is able. He is great. He is able to bring all His plans for us to pass. When we are discouraged, shift our vision away from ourselves and set our eyes on Jesus. We will see our struggles and our lives from a different light. God is able. God is great and that matters more than if I am able or if I am great. For when I am weak, then am I strong ... [2 Corinthians 12:9-10] 9 And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2.
