Prayer Email archive: (06/23/2000) forgiveness is free but trust ... |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: forgiveness is free, but trust ... My pastor gave a very interesting quiz last Sunday. Try this: Answer TRUE/FALSE i. A person should not be forgiven until he asks for it. TRUE/FALSE ii. Forgiving includes ignoring the offence caused. TRUE/FALSE iii. Forgiveness includes restoring trust and reuniting a relationship TRUE/FALSE iv. You haven't really forgiven until you've forgotten the offence TRUE/FALSE v. It is my duty to forgive the offender that hurt someone else TRUE/FALSE Have you answered all of them yet? Answer them before you continue reading. .. .. .. The answer to all of the above should be FALSE. I'm not going to rehearse his message, so I just want to share on point iii above. We covered point iv in the last prayer email. Forgiveness is free but trust must be earned. Sometimes we have people asking us whether they should forgive the husband who physically abuse them. Yes, they should forgive, but restoring the relationship completely is another thing. Trust has to be rebuilt over time. For trust to be rebuilt, the person who has hurt you has to fulfil three things: i. There must be genuine repentance [Matthew 18:15] "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. (NIV) If he "listens" to you. If a man says he is sorry but give excuses and try to minimize his sin by blaming you, blaming others and circumstances, he is not genuinely repenting . ii. There must be restitution [Luke 19:8] But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." The person has to understand the consequences of what he or she has done and make restitution. He should take steps to make amends for the wrong or the hurt that he has done. iii. There must be time to rebuilt trust [Matthew 7:16,17] 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. It takes time for us to know whether there has been a change in their lives. We shall know people by their fruits. Action speaks louder than words and we can only tell given time. So, let us be wise. Forgiveness is free but trust must be earned. 2. New prayer requests: i. Pray for my son T.J. -- cheryl I am a single mother of two. My son T.J. is almost 16 years old and the Holy Spirit is truly moving in him. He is opening wounds in my sons heart so that they can be healed. Wounds concerning the absence of his father. Please pray that T.J. will allow the Holy Spirit to heal and cleanse him. I know that he has a calling on his life and I thank you for your prayers. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=214&table=prayer&reptable=replies ii. Pray for my cousin -- dmw0608 Please pray for my cousin who is on drugs. Her name is Barbara and she has been battling drugs now for 15 years. Monday she stole her parents truck and went to a crack house. She has not been seen since. She has spent time in jail and her parents are thinking about sending her back. She has many evil spirits attacking her. She has even said that she has seen satan and has talked to her. Please pray for these demons to release her in the name of Jesus! Also, she has a little boy that her parents have been taking care of. They are considering getting legal custody of him but want to hear God's voice on what to do. They do not want to get in the way of any work that he is doing. Please pray for strength and encouragement for my aunt and uncle. Their names are Al and Deanna. They love the lord so much and I pray that he will give them a time of rest and peace from the battles. thank you http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=215&table=prayer&reptable=replies iii. pray for my marriage -- dmw0608 Please pray for my marriage. My husband and I love the lord and believe his hand is on our lives. We are coming under heavy attack by the enemy and it can be overwhelming. I worry that my faith is not strong enough to ride through the swarming waters. There is a great strain in our marriage and it seems like God is so far away even though my spirit tells me he is near. Please pray for God's guidance and pray that his spirit will refresh us. thank you brothers and sisters! http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=216&table=prayer&reptable=replies iv. Pray for my wife and our marriage -- pooki The enemy is trying to pull us apart. She's being drawn into a rebellious lifestyle, and is discontented with the change in my life. She's searching for happiness in the things of the world, and feels that my being a minister is hindering her from having fun or being free to do what she wants. Thank you and God bless. http://mydevotion.com/logos/asp/viewpyrrep.asp?forumid=5&forumtype=2&topicid=217&table=prayer&reptable=replies 3. Continue to pray for: i.
