Prayer Email archive: (03/19/2002) entering into His rest |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: entering into His rest [Galatians 5:1] Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. My pastor recently gave us a new revelation. In the Old Testament time, the key word for hearing from God is "wait". In the New Testament time, the key word is "rest". I went out with a few girlfriends the other day and we were talking about this subject. Should we stop travailing and fasting and doing all the necessary things which we think we need to do in order to hear from God and just "rest"? Wouldn't this be an abuse to the privilege that God has given us? There are two sides of a coin. I felt that we should look at this revelation in context. I agree with my pastor that the New Testament emphasis has shifted. I'm now reading the book of Galatians and Paul again and again pointed out to the Galatians that our only basis with God is grace and not works. I suppose that many times, we not only "work" to gain God's approval, but we also "work" at hearing from Him. I know that I've spent hours and days travailing to hear from God when I started out as a Christian. Some days I would cry my eyes out until I thought I started seeing rainbows through the tears, just for God to say something. I would wait and wait but God did not show up with an audible voice. Those sessions would leave me very frustrated and frankly, a little upset that God did not care that I was turning myself blue trying to reach out to Him. I guess my pastor is right at that point. Because I've heard God the clearest when I am not trying so hard. When I am just resting and bathing in His presence, a small voice would come. Sometimes it is so clear (it's still not audible but an inner voice) that I would be overwhelmed and extremely comforted. God always bring comfort to me when He speaks. That is the beauty of having someone as perfect as Him as a companion. But please don't use this as an excuse not to fast or to pray and spend more time with God. It is coming to God with an attitude: the right attitude. Not coming to Him with our works demanding that He submit because we have laboured soooooo very hard. But realising that our basis with God is that we are undeserving and yet He gave. When we come to God in that attitude of rest, we will struggle less to hear that inner voice. We will learn to stand fast in that liberty that Jesus has given us in the new covenant and come to God in the basis of a son, free from having to work in order to gain an audience with the Father. If we are to labour at all, maybe we should labour to enter into God's rest. [Hebrews 4:9-11] 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 2. Special Note: Sorry guys and gals, but since my marriage, I have been really busy. What have I been busy with? Well, it is different when one is married. One cannot remain glued to the computer and neglect one's "ministry" in marriage. But seriously, besides adjusting to my married life, God has really prospered my business and I find myself having too much to do. I haven't been able to take leave to go on my honeymoon. But don't worry, I believe that God will provide me wisdom on how to juggle my time. Meanwhile, I would really appreciate it if some of you guys and gals can go and pray at the site. Sometimes, I would just pop in and see so many "unprayed-for" items. It was good that recently cherisheep popped in and prayed for a few items. When we refresh others, we also will feel refreshed. 3.
