(06/19/2000) to forgive, but to forget?

Hello prayer warriors,

1. Prayer note: to forgive, but to forget?

[Isaiah 54:4-6]
4 "Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not
fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will
forget the shame of your youth and remember no more
the reproach of your widowhood.
5 For your Maker is your husband-- the LORD Almighty
is his name-- the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
he is called the God of all the earth.
6 The LORD will call you back as if you were a wife
deserted and distressed in spirit-- a wife who married
young, only to be rejected," says your God.

I've heard time and again that the deepest hurt is
rejection. I think this is true. One of the last
things that Jesus suffered was rejection, when He
cried out to our Father in heaven and said, "Eli, Eli,
lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why
hast thou forsaken me?" [Matthew 27:46]. God the
Father turned His face away when Jesus took all the
sins on Himself and He rejected Him on the Cross so
that we can be accepted.

Some people say you have not forgiven until you have
forgotten. Do you think that is true? How many people
can forget? Can you forget the 10 years of your life
with a husband who deserted you? Can you forget your
childhood years when your parent rejected you?

What does the Bible say about this?

(God is a God of coincidence. I felt led to talk about
this subject in the prayer emails and my pastor just
preached a whole message on unforgiveness yesterday.)

God did not say that we will forget the events but He
did say that we will forget the shame of our youth and
the reproach of our widowhood. We will not forget the
events but we will forget the hurts, we will forget
the damage.

I don't think that this forgetting is wiping things
away from our memories. When God heals us, we remember
but we don't feel the tinge of rejection anymore or
the damage of the hurt anymore.

[Genesis 41:51-52]
51 Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, "It
is because God has made me forget all my trouble and
all my father's household."
52 The second son he named Ephraim and said, "It is
because God has made me fruitful in the land of my
suffering."

Joseph called his first child Manasseh which means
"God has made me forget" (Easton's Bible dictionary).
He called his second child Ephraim which means double
fruitfulness.

Joseph did not forget the events but he forgot the
trouble and the hurt because he knows that the damage
is not irrepairable with God. We become bitter because
we think that God cannot make things better. When we
have a bigger vision of our God, we know that God can
make us fruitful in the land of affliction.

2. New prayer requests:
i. Pray for my grandfather -- jennifer
My grandmother and grandfather got into another fight.
As usual, they fight every day. My grandfather is
diabetic and my grandmother has high blood pressure. I
just found out today that he left home for a couple of
days. He was nowhere to be found. Well, we found out
that he is staying in a waiting room in a hospital. He
refuses to come home. I know the Lord is watching over
him. But I feel that I need others to pray for him.
Pray that he will come home and that God will open up
his heart. Being that he is not a Christian.

i. Pray for Roger's father -- waihun
He is still missing. Roger had gotten many people to
