Prayer Email archive: (09/28/2001) the place of provision |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: the place of provision [Genesis 22:14] And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen. One of the names of God is Jehovah Jireh. God has so many names, and one of these names which I love is Jehovah Jireh. It stands for "God will provide". God was first given this name by Abraham at a place called Mount Moriah. How do we reach this place of provision where we too can also call God by this name? We have to look at the events that brought Abraham to mount Moriah. [Genesis 22:1-2] 1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. 2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. This was a really difficult task. It meant Abraham bringing his only son to a mountain to sacrifice as a burnt offering for God. It meant Abraham carrying "his cross". I recently had the privilege of listening to Ed Cole. He was talking about the Cross being the place where we meet God. The Cross is the center of our Christian walk. It did not only become a place of exchange for God in which we finally became reconciled to Him. It became the basis to which we must follow Jesus. [Matthew 16:24] Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Many of us, however, do not understand the Cross and what it means. The Cross for Jesus was doing God's will in spite of Himself. [Matthew 26:38-39] 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. When Jesus knew what He had to do, He asked God whether He could escape what He would have to go through. Jesus' Cross was doing God's will in spite of self. After this prayer, Jesus chose to follow God and deny Himself. Our cross is also doing God's will in spite of self: denying ourselves and following Him. That was exactly what Abraham did. God asked Abraham to do something that would require him to deny himself if he were to follow God. Abraham carried his cross and followed God. He took his son, Isaac, and went on his journey up to Mount Moriah to worship God. When Isaac asked Abraham where the lamb for the offering was, Abraham said [Genesis 22:8] "My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering." And God did provide. Just before Abraham placed his knife on his son to slay Him, the angel of the Lord appeared. [Genesis 22:12-14] 12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh. God will provide. However, the place of provision is the place of obedience. Abraham was obedient in spite of himself. Obedience means carrying your cross and following Him in faith, trusting Him. And obedience releases provision. If God has asked you to do something and you have not walked in obedience, you will not experience the provision from walking in God's calling in your life. You will not experience the blessings that come from obedience to His Will and the blessings that come from carrying your cross. Jesus' act of obedience released the greatest provision and blessing for mankind. So, to reach the place of provision where you can fully understand what it is to call God "Jehovah Jireh", first move into the place called obedience. 2. New prayer requests: i.
