Prayer Email archive: (03/13/2001) importance of perspective |
Hello prayer warriors,
1. Prayer note: importance of perspective Why do we feel like giving up on things or on life or especially on hope? Sometimes we think that we are giving up because of the circumstances but really, the real reason is because we have been looking at things in the wrong perspective. What do I mean by that? [John 15:2] He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. (NIV) I've learned some things from Dr. John Lim which I'd like to share with you. One of the world's principle is ... "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". The bible tells us that if a part of us does not bear fruit, cut it off. But EVEN when we do bear fruit, God continues the pruning process on us, He continues to cut things away from our lives. Some of these changes are usually painful but do you know what happens to living organism that does not detoxify or get rid of toxic matter? That living organism will soon poison itself and die. The same with our lives, in order to be perfected in Christ, we need to continue to allow God to cut away areas in our lives so that we will be even MORE fruitful. The key to more fruitfulness is PRUNING. Who would have thought of that? We need to allow God to prune us so that we can grow from faith to faith and from glory to glory. So, how do we treat change in our lives, when things are seemingly taken away from our lives? Do we throw up our hands in despair and give up because we see the change as being destructive? Or do we see change as something that is positive? A child cannot inherit his father's inheritance until he is a grown man. To grow, he needs to change. No matter how simple his life may seem to be now, he cannot remain a child forever. Change may be painful, he may learn a little about life, more on human nature, lose a little of his innocence. But when he is a grown man, he receives an inheritance because he is now more mature and more able to handle the inheritance than when he was a child. Of course, we know there are exceptions, some of us never grow up:). Why do I know that change in my life is positive? Because I know that God is true to His Word and His plans for me are true. [Jeremiah 29:11] For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV) [Romans 8:28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. I hold on to my faith and to what God has said over my life. I confess that. So, when things don't seem to go my way, I need to look at God's way. I do not place my hope on things, on people or on circumstances but I place my hope on God. I remember that He is my provider and He is my shepherd. He is also a God of great reversals. You see it everywhere in the bible. As my pastor once told me, the blessing is not in the land, but the blessing is in the man. God's blessings is in me. I am assured of that and I am safe in His hands. 2. New prayer requests: i.
