(12/20/2000) how to receive the baptism?

Hello prayer warriors,

1. Prayer note: how to receive the baptism?

[Luke 3:16]
John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize
you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the
latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he
shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

We've been talking about the baptism of the Holy
Spirit in the past prayer emails, why we need the
baptism so that we can be powerful witnesses for Him
and what is the criteria for accepting the baptism.
The main criteria is that we need to be a believer
first. That is all we need. And the criteria for
receiving ... is faith.

This is what the scripture says:

[Luke 11:9-13]
9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you;
seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened
unto you.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that
seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be
opened.
11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a
father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish,
will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a
scorpion?
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good
gifts unto your children: how much more shall your
heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask
him?

Many of us are familiar with [Luke 11:9-10]. Ask and
you shall receive, seek and you shall find. How many
of us go on to read the context of this? God is
talking about the Holy Spirit. He is a great Gift from
God and if it is Christmas time, maybe He is the
perfect gift for you. God desires to give us this gift
and He has promised in His Word that if we ask the
heavenly Father to give the Holy Spirit to us that ask
of Him, He will give us the Holy Spirit. He will not
give us anything evil. Take the Word of God and just
believe His Word by faith.

If you believe, all you have to do is ask and God will
baptise you with the Holy Spirit.

Now, what about tongues? In the book of Acts, the
infilling of the Holy Spirit is usually evidenced by
the act of speaking in tongues. If you are not
familiar with speaking in tongues, please read the recent
prayer email archives.

I found a scripture in Acts where Paul was baptized
with the Holy Spirit [Acts 9:17-18]. However, it was
not mentioned that he spoke in tongues immediately.
This is what I believe. It is possible to be baptized
with the Holy Spirit and receive tongues later. Why am
I so sure of this? Because I received the baptism but
did not receive the tongues immediately. How do I know
then that I was indeed baptized? Because His Word says
that if I ask Him of the Holy Spirit, my Father in
heaven will give the Holy Spirit to me.

And secondly, when I asked for the baptism, some
supernatural things happened to me. Even though I did
not speak in tongues, I went home and opened my bible.
For the first time in my life, the bible became alive
to me. I can't describe it but the words jumped out of
the text and I could understand. I'm not saying that
you cannot understand the bible when you are not
baptised with the Holy Spirit, but I am relating my
personal experience. Another thing happened to me. I
don't know what came over me but I had this
supernatural boldness to share the gospel. I talked to
people on the bus, in my school, to my family. God
gave me this boldness that He promised in [Acts 1:8].

Everyone's experience may be different but the main
thing is, as with any other thing with God, you
need to receive by faith.

So, if you want to receive, say this prayer after me
before God:
(Note: if you are not a believer yet, please read the
previous email before you proceed. You need to be a
believer first before you can receive this baptism:

"Father in Heaven,
You have promised in Your Word that when I ask You for
the Holy Spirit, You will always give me the Holy
Spirit. I ask that You baptise me with Your Holy Spirit
and with fire. I receive Your baptism by faith and I
thank You that even right now You are filling me with
the Holy Spirit. I desire to be filled so completely
by You Lord so that I will be a powerful witness for
You. Thank You Lord. I am filled even right now in
Jesus' Mighty Name. Thank You Father.
In Jesus' Name, Amen."
