        (03/20/2000) Dealing with counter-attacks

hello prayer warriors

1. prayer note: dealing with counter-attacks

[2 Kings 4:3]
And the mother of the child said, As the Lord liveth,
and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he
arose, and followed her.

This is the cry of the Shunammite woman to Elisha.
What has happened? This Shunammite woman has shown
Elisha hospitality. In return, Elisha asked her what
she wanted. God spoke to Elisha and told her that she
will have a son.

The woman couldn't believe it. It was through Elisha's
faith and God's grace that she conceived a son.

What happened next?
[2 Kings 4:18-20]
18 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day,
that he went out to his father to the reapers.
19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head.
And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to
his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then
died.

What was the woman's reaction? What will be our
reaction if God has promised us something and we
received with joy and then it seemed that the thing
that was given to us was taken away?

I have a friend who has experienced this too. I was
reading the bible one day,
[Mark 16:18] they shall lay hands on the sick, and
they shall recover ...
and I felt so convicted that God had asked me to pray
for a friend who had a certain sickness. I went over
to his house and true enough, he was on the ground
suffering from great pain. He told me he couldn't
move. I laid hands on him and prayed over him. Almost
immediately, the pain left him and the next minute, he
was jumping up and down for joy.

He did not have this problem anymore. After a few
months, the symptoms surfaced again and this time,
each attack seemed to be more painful and would last
longer. And this time, no matter how much I prayed,
the situation did not improve. I told him that these
are just symptoms and not the illness, but he told me,
surely, he knows that it is.

Now, back to the story of the Shunammite woman, what
did she do? She did not bury her child, and say that
surely God has taken His blessing away. She knew that
what God has given her, He will not take away and she
stood on His promises and not the circumstances.

She exercised her faith. Before this, it was Elisha
that exercised his faith when the first miracle
happened. Now, in this counter-attack of the enemy,
she exercised her own faith, sought out Elisha and
held on to God's promises.

My friend has started exercising his own faith
recently too and now everytime the symptoms seem to
surface, he would command the symptoms to go away and
stand on God's healing and believe that he has been
permanently healed. Almost immediately, the problem
would disappear.

So, if you feel you are experiencing a counter-attack,
exercise your own faith and seek God and believe.
Stand on His Words and not the circumstances.

iv. A falling attitude & prosperity -- Pauline
Dear prayer warriors...
The last few months I've become depressed --
disillusioned with the happiness around me, and unsure
of my security, and suffering panic attacks. With all
the excitement of a new casual job, I've only had 2
days work. I need to work. With my approaching
marriage ever closer, I feel I'm not contributing my
share financially. With all the difficulties I've been
tested with in the last two years, I'm finding it
really hard to keep my chin up and stay cheery, my
positive attitude is falling by the wayside... my
fiance tells me everything is and will be alright, but
it doesn't console me.

Please pray for me.... I need the strength of the Lord
that my brothers and sisters in Christ can provide...
(I'd be happy to hear from anyone who mails me too...)

3. Prayer update
i. update on little jack -- wazza
Hi, some sad news reached me today, little Jack passed
away this morning and went home to be with the Lord
Jesus. His parents are very sad, as can be expected.
They are not christians so we need to pray that they
will not harden their hearts to the gospel. Thanks for
your prayers, Wazza.
