The "masters" is speaking of teachers of the Word. There is a famine in the land for the Word therefore there are for more false teachers. If you are listening to several different teachers then you are bound to be receiving different doctrines. This chapter speaks of how the whole body can be controlled and how godliness cannot proceed from ungodliness. The several teachers will lead to ungodliness.
