The word is everything in Psalm 119, to me 81 and 82 are common of parallel construction in Hebrew Poetry. Our eyes cannot work without light, the word is light for the eyes of our heart, see 119:105, so just as our soul faints for His salvation (81), our eyes fail for His word. ?

I can relate to this verse. I suffer from depression. During my low times it seems that I cannot even read God's word. All I can say is, "God...when will you take this darkness away from me?"

sometimes it help to get a different translation

NIV Psalm 119
82 My eyes fail, looking for your promise;
I say, "When will you comfort me?" i see it as meaning God i'm tired of watching for you to carry out your end of the deal when will you fullfill it
