This verse, I believe, says that we are not to be partners in business, and relationships. If we do, we are setting ourselves up to be tempted and swayed to the ways of the world. We can't avoid unbelievers and shouldn't, because we are to reach out to them with the word of God. But to put ourselves in close relationships with them is usually fatal to the relationship, which ever it is. the Unbeliever lives in darkness(without the word and without the spirit) and the two don't mix. Like oil and water. Make sense?
