IT BRINGS US TO THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF WHO GOD REALLY IS.HE IS THE WORD AND HE WORD IS LIFE.WE CANNOT DENY OR LIBERATE THE WORD FROM OUR LIFE.WE MUST SEEK TO APPLY THE WORD TO OUR LIFE SITUATIONS AND RECOGNIZE THAT IN DOING SO WE ARE IN ACTUALITY PUTTING GOD IN CONTROL.IF GOD IS THE BEGINNING AND THE END THEN IT MEANS THAT OUR ENTIRE EXISTENCE IS TIED UP IN HIM. NO WORD, NO GOD. NO GOD NO LIFE.JUST A THOUGHT.

The Word is the very foundation of all that exists. It indicates when, where and what (character) is the Word. Life originated because of the Word. Life sustains because of the Word. Life must move towards the likeness of the Word.

GOD IS THE WORD. THE SPIRIT OF GOD WAS ALL THAT EXISTED BEFORE THE WORLD WAS EVEN FORMED. IT WAS BY HIS WORD THAT ALL THINGS CAME INTO EXISTENCE. HE JUST SPOKE AND WHATEVER HE SPOKE THAT IS WHAT APPEARED.

This is the essence of the truth of who Jesus is. It proves that Jesus was and is, God in the flesh. I tells me emphatically that Jesus and God are one. The Word (with a capital W) refers to Jesus. Further reading does clarify that and does tell me that Jesus participated in the beginning, in creation. He was and is here, the world didn't comprehend Him then, nor does it comprehend Him now. It also tells us the good news that Jesus is Lord. (it is hard to just talk about one verse to get the full understanding, but I tried.)

If we want to understand who Jesus is, John says, we must begin with the relationship shared between the Father and the Son "before the world began" (Jn 17:5, 24). Note the parallel between the beginning in Gen 1:1 and the beginning in John 1:1. God is awesome in how He caused our scriptures to 'hang together' There are so MANY nuggets to glean from Just this passage alone. I was required (gently) to study this chapter when I first accepted Christ because I needed to know who it is that I serve to cement my relationship with Him. This cinched it for me... He was, is, and always will be...the I AM...of scripture, so it is with my life..

before time existed...

When I attempt to calculate the full meaning of this verse; I am convinced that it is beyond my scope of understanding in its entirety. In the beginning was the Word. Before time was created was the word. Since the beginning the word has been. It has always exsisted and always will. The word was with God because the Word was God. God is his word. It is with him and will continue to be with him forever. forever. I cannot begin to grasp the length of time that occupies. Infinite.

I like this verse because it tells that the Word was (existed) even before the creation of the world or man. If you look it this verse it is telling us that Jesus was and is the Word. It gives us reason and incentive to study the bible since it tells us that "Word was God", then we have to study in order to get God. The more we study "The Word" the more it is revealed to us who we are and the authority that we have when we stand on "The Word" and it also tells us what the "Will of the Word (God)" is for us.

In the beginning is a refrence for me for man kind to understand that before anything was he already was, before anything we see or understand such as time and space, he already existed in eternity, time is for man,God created time but he is not effected by it;[2 Peter 3:8]if one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years as one day to the lord then he lives in a place without time; it tells me that the word, that was spoken before time was Christ; and that he made everything. It says that in him was life and without him we have no life.

man is an finate being, with God being an infinate. therefore it is hard to grasp the idea of "in the begining". This is something that must be taken on fath alone.

To me it echos [Gen.1:1] and establishes that God was in the beginning and opens my mind to the concept of The Word being God and the Word is explained later on to be Christ as well. Christ and God are one, and were one in the very beginning. Christ is timeless and this verse reaffirms that fact to me.

The first chapter of John is not for new borns, as it requires great faith to understand. God has always existed, He is outside of time. Time was created for man, not God. Jesus is the Word of God, who became flesh.(see [John 1:14]) When God said, Let There Be Light, it was Jesus who made it, as He is the Word of God.

jlim, read Genesis 1:1-3. There you will find the records of what happened in the beginning. You will see God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. They were all there in the beginning. Who spoke the word? Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

[ Answers: 6 ] Where was the voice that spoke the Word? Was the mouth formed in the beginning? To me, this shows that some things in the Book cannot be taken literally, but metaphorically.
